At Manchester BIOGEL we are dedicated to supporting and training our team, in addition to helping support the next generation of scientists and engineers. With only 12% of Engineers in the workplace being female, our CEO Aline Miller we are acutely aware of the importance of giving experience and support to females in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and this is why we’re proud to be mentoring two bright female students, Sophie and Molly.

As part of her Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Manchester, Sophie Davidson has taken a position as Production Engineer for her 12 month placement. During her time in the company she will be exposed to all aspects of a biotech company from supply chain to quality control and health and safety, while she will retain a focus on the scale-up our manufacturing process.

I was certain I wanted to undertake a placement year with my degree and was presented the opportunity to work at Manchester BIOGEL as Aline Miller, the CEO, was one of my lecturers. From the second I heard about the placement, I knew I wanted to apply as it combines my passions of chemical engineering and regenerative medicine. I’ve learned so much in my short time here and I’m eager to make a positive stamp on the company just as it will do for me. I am confident I will go back to University with a greater variety of transferable skills and will be better equipped to start my journey to Chartership.” -Sophie

Molly Cao is our summer intern who will be helping with marketing and business development and assisting our CEO, Aline. She is currently studying materials science and engineering at the University of Manchester.

I wanted to learn more about different aspects of running a small business in the materials field. I have a background in research with a little experience in business and design and hope to be able to use this to help the company develop its marketing materials and optimise operations.” -Molly

Sophie and Molly join the team just as the company is experience a growth in the scale of sales and operations and we look forward to exchanging knowledge and ideas with both.
