Accelerate your work with ease and accuracy; Pipetting Viscous Gels for 3D Cell Culture

Three-dimensional (3D) cell culture systems are gaining increasing interest in several biomedical fields including drug discovery and tissue engineering due to their evident advantages in providing more physiologically relevant information and more predictive data for in vivo tests. Our peptide hydrogels, PeptiGels®, are rapidly becoming the go to 3D scaffold for cell culture as they allow users to gain reproducible and reliable data with simple and fast experimental set-up. As PeptiGels® come in a range of viscosities (and functionality) to mimic any human tissue we need to optimise their pipetting to ensure efficient experimental set-up and maximise culture time, reliability and reproducibility. Traditionally, standard air displacement pipettes have been used for 2D cell culture and they offer accurate pipetting of pure liquid samples. However, these often lead to the introduction of air bubbles and increase error when pipetting viscous liquids due to the internal mechanism of aspiration and exposure to air. To overcome this, positive displacement pipettes contain a piston mechanism integrated within the tip which gives direct contact with the sample (i.e. there is no air cushion present in standard pipettes). Consequently, the physical properties of the sample have less influence on the aspirated material which leads to more accurate pipetting and minimises the introduction of air bubbles enabling you to accelerate your work with ease and accuracy.
